Tanfield Lane runs north-west from the village towards Wickham Common and the countryside beyond. The lane is semi-rural, with a handful of properties along its length and open land on both sides. The lane provides access to footpaths and bridleways that cross the common and extend into the farmland to the north and west. Tanfield Lane is quiet and lightly trafficked, used mainly by residents and by walkers heading for the common. The views from the higher ground along the lane extend across the village and towards the Meon Valley.
