Mill Lane
Street guide, Wickham
Mill Lane branches off near Bridge Street and follows the course of the River Meon past the site of the old mill workings. The lane is narrow and semi-rural, with hedgerows and trees providing shade. A handful of properties along the lane enjoy river frontage and views across the water meadows. The lane provides access to footpaths along the Meon, making it a popular starting point for riverside walks. The name reflects the milling history of the area; the Chesapeake Mill on Bridge Street is the most visible survivor, but there were other mill sites along this stretch of the river. Mill Lane is quiet and lightly trafficked, used mainly by residents and walkers.
