Post-War Residential Growth
1960
From the 1950s onwards, Wickham expanded beyond its historic core with new residential development on the edges of the village. Housing was built along School Road, Buddens Road, Mayles Lane, and other streets, adding family homes to what had been a compact agricultural settlement. The growth reflected the nationwide pattern of suburban expansion and the increasing desirability of village living for commuters working in Fareham, Portsmouth, and Southampton. The new housing changed the character of the village's edges while the historic centre around The Square was largely preserved.
