Parking in Wickham

Where to park in the village

Parking in Wickham is managed through a combination of on-street spaces and a small public car park. The Square itself has parking spaces around its edges, and the surrounding streets provide additional on-street parking. During normal days, finding a space in the village centre is usually possible, though it can require a short walk from where you park to where you want to be.

The village car park provides the main off-street option and is free to use. Spaces are limited, and the car park fills during events and busy weekends. During the Wickham Festival, the Christmas fair, and other major events, temporary parking arrangements are made, with additional fields and spaces opened to handle the increased numbers.

The bypass has transformed parking in the village centre by removing through traffic from The Square. Before the bypass opened, the A32 ran through the heart of the village, making parking and pedestrian movement difficult. The bypass allows The Square to function as a village space rather than a traffic junction, which has improved both parking and the general quality of the environment.

For residents, parking is generally managed through on-street spaces and private driveways. The historic streets around The Square are narrow, and inconsiderate parking can cause difficulties for other road users and for emergency vehicles. The parish council has addressed parking issues periodically.

Visitors arriving for walks on the Meon Valley Trail can park in the village and walk to the trail access point on Station Road. The trail car park provides an alternative starting point.
