Cafes in Wickham

Coffee, tea, and light bites in the village

Cafe culture in Wickham is modest in scale but improving. The village does not have a large number of dedicated cafes, but there are places to get coffee and a light bite without leaving the village.

The village stores and other businesses on The Square provide basic refreshments, and several of the dining establishments serve daytime drinks and light meals. Greens restaurant on The Square is open during the day and serves coffee and lighter dishes alongside its main menu. The Chesapeake Mill also offers daytime refreshments in its bar area.

Wickham Vineyard, on Botley Road on the outskirts of the village, has a shop and tasting room where visitors can stop for refreshments. While primarily a wine destination, the vineyard provides a pleasant setting for a break, particularly for walkers and cyclists coming off the Meon Valley Trail.

For a wider choice of cafes, Bishop's Waltham is the nearest option with multiple independent cafes and tearooms. The town has developed a reputation for its independent food and drink scene, and the drive from Wickham takes only a few minutes. Fareham town centre also has cafes, both independent and chain, serving the full range from artisan coffee to standard high-street fare.

The community centre and the parish church hall both host events that include tea and cake, and these informal gatherings serve the social function that a cafe might provide in a larger settlement. In a village where people know each other, the social aspect of a cafe is partly fulfilled by the pub, the church, and the community organisations.

The quality of coffee available locally has improved noticeably in recent years, reflecting the broader trend across Hampshire. Even in pub and community settings, the days of instant coffee are largely over.
