Wickham Square

Heritage, Wickham

One of the largest village squares in England, laid out as a planned medieval market place in the thirteenth century. The Square is bounded by period buildings, pubs, shops, and houses, with a central island bearing the war memorial and mature trees. It serves as the venue for the Wickham Festival, the Christmas fair, community markets, and everyday village life. The Square is the defining feature of Wickham and the reason the village feels larger than its population suggests.
