St Nicholas Church Founded
1120
The parish church of St Nicholas was founded in the twelfth century, replacing or incorporating an earlier Saxon church on the site. The church served the growing community of Wickham and its surrounding hamlets, providing a centre for worship, burial, and the marking of the agricultural year. The building has been altered and extended over the centuries, with medieval, Tudor, and later additions layered onto the original Norman structure. The church tower is a landmark visible from many points in the village and the surrounding countryside.
