Mayles Lane Area

Quiet residential area north of The Square with family housing, generous gardens, and easy access to countryside walks.

Mayles Lane runs north from The Square towards the open countryside and the lanes that lead to Shedfield and Bishop's Waltham. The area is predominantly residential, with a mix of housing that includes some older properties near the village centre and more modern development further out. Mayles Lane itself is a semi-rural road that transitions from village to countryside within a few hundred metres. The housing along the lane includes detached and semi-detached houses from the mid to late twentieth century, set in generous plots with gardens. The area has a quiet, suburban character, well removed from the busier roads around The Square. Residents on Mayles Lane are within easy walking distance of the village centre and its facilities, while also being on the edge of the Hampshire countryside. The lane connects to footpaths and bridleways that provide access to the farmland and woodland to the north and east of the village. For families, the area is popular because of its proximity to Wickham CE Primary School on School Road, which is a short walk away. The Mayles Lane area represents the quiet residential expansion that has happened around many Hampshire villages, adding family housing without fundamentally changing the character of the historic core.
