Fareham Road Area
The main road south-east towards Fareham, with a mix of housing and a transition from village to open countryside.
Fareham Road is the main route south-east from Wickham towards Fareham, and the area along it includes a mix of residential properties and the transition from village to open countryside. The road carries the most traffic of any route through the village, connecting Wickham to the A32 and onwards to Fareham town centre. The housing along Fareham Road near the village is a mix of periods, with some older properties close to the centre and more modern development further out. The road passes through agricultural land, with fields and hedgerows on both sides as the village is left behind. The Fareham Road area includes some of the larger properties on the southern fringe of the village, set in substantial plots. For residents, Fareham Road is the main commuting route towards the south and east, connecting to the A32 corridor and ultimately to the M27 motorway network. The traffic on the road can be noticeable during peak hours, particularly when the village is used as a through route, but the properties set back from the road are largely shielded from the noise. The southern end of the area connects to the countryside and the lanes that lead towards Funtley and the Meon valley villages further south.
